Why should we call God Father?
This conversation started when a theology student asked me how should he address the controversy about calling God, Father. There are those who want to address God as Mother and some want to omit “The Father”, referring to God simply as Creator because He should not have a “gender”.
This is a shortened version of My discussion with God.
Question: In your own words why should we call you Father? Why shouldn’t we call you Mother? What does Father really mean?
God’s answer:
I father you all
I AM the provider
Meaning: God is simply repeating His answers to the question: Who are You as God, The Father. Pater is the word for Father. He uses this in reference to Paternoster (latin for the Lord’s Prayer or the Our Father),.
In Chapter 22, the Final Chapter, God explains how He fathers us. Put simply, God is really our Father.
Question: But God, some may argue that your statement about being a Father figure because you are the provider is prejudicial. In today’s society many women are co or even sole bread-winners?
