Why should we call God Father?

This conversation started when a theology student asked me how should he address the controversy about calling God, Father. There are those who want to address God as Mother and some want to omit “The Father”, referring to God simply as Creator because He should not have a “gender”.

This is a shortened version of My discussion with God.

Question: In your own words why should we call you Father? Why shouldn’t we call you Mother? What does Father really mean?

God’s answer:

Pater
I father you all
Father figure
I AM the provider

Meaning: God is simply repeating His answers to the question: Who are You as God, The Father. Pater is the word for Father. He uses this in reference to Paternoster (latin for the Lord’s Prayer or the Our Father),.

In Chapter 22, the Final Chapter, God explains how He fathers us. Put simply, God is really our Father.

Question: But God, some may argue that your statement about being a Father figure because you are the provider is prejudicial. In today’s society many women are co or even sole bread-winners?

God’s answer:

Not in My kingdom.

Question: How can a person make a case of why we should call you Father without referring to the answers in the book about how you create us?

God’s answer:

Christian teaching
I specifically taught you to do so.
It is a profession of Faith.

Meaning: God is referring to Jesus teaching us to call God “Our Father” in the Lord’s Prayer.

Question: Again, without referring to your answers in Chapter 22 on how you create us, why is it wrong for us to call you Mother?

God’s answer:

“Our Father who art in Heaven,
hallowed be thy name.”
It is sacrilegious.

Question: In general, why is calling you Father a point of contention even amongst Christians?

God’s answer:

They don’t know how I created you.

Meaning: People don't how exactly why God is our Father. All that the bible tells us is that Adam and Eve were created by God, and we are their offspring. What people don't know is how God becomes our Father, so they think that Father means creator and that the use of Father is associated with its meaning in our society.
